Converting Children

I found this comment on the Rapture Ready message boards more than a little disturbing.

This could shut down Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Clubs that are on so many elementary school campuses across the country. There are many of us that spend time on those campuses and give kids the gospel every week. We have seen so many children come to Christ! Just in the area where I live, we have seen so many professions of faith this year. Because these clubs are sponsored by churches, many of these kids become regular attenders at local churches and bring their parents with them. It has been a wonderful evangelism tool through the years. Before the law was passed to allow them into the schools, we used to have them in various homes in the community. Don't think we won't go back to that method if we have to!

Think about that for a second. You send your child to a public school. It doesn't really matter what religion you are or aren't, do you want someone converting your children without your permission?

Messing with someone else's children is beyond low, and I imagine the same Child Evangelism Fellowship's Good News Clubs' members would be enraged if I did that to their children. Social boundaries alone should inspire people to kick these idiots out of elementary schools. Elementary schools! I could get first grader to believe anything, absolutely anything. That's . . . I'm speechless with anger. Wow.

More on this later.

  1. That is completely unacceptable. Completely. As a parent? If my daughter came home talking about something like this I would unleash holy terror on these people. Unacceptable. You do NOT mess with other people's kids!

  2. That was my exact reaction- and I don't have children! I can't imagine how enraged a parent would be to have their child come home from school spouting a religion their family does not share.

"Unacceptable" doesn't even beging to cover it. I don't know a word that does.

  3. The sheer arrogance is astounding. When/if I have kids, I hope I'll give them the tools to come to a thorough understanding on their own, and one that makes them act as decent human beings. But I certainly don't want self-righteous smarms sneaking onto their elementary school grounds after-hours to get the jump on me when my kids are still, like, FIVE.

  4. It's so disturbing. Especially because I know kids and you can get them to believe anything. My mom loves to tell the story that when she was maybe 20, her sister was bragging endlessly about how smart her 4 year old was, so my mom not convinced the child that she had three feet, she had her looking for her third shoe! If you can convince a child that they have 3 feet, Jesus must be pretty easy.

  6. Oh, the stimulus package contains language that is standard to any bill that protects the rights of religious organizations on state-funded premises (schools, universities, etc.) For some reason, the republiscum/religious right interpreted this as an attempt to remove religious entities from state-funded premises.

They've been outraged about this problem that doesn't even exist for weeks.
