You know, every now and then I think, "maybe I'm being a little harsh about the whole religious thing. Maybe I should back off on it all." Then I see things like this. Atheists are specifically forbidden from running for public office in Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Maryland and Mississippi.

Great world we live in, isn't it? Yet it's the Christians are being persecuted! Apparently because we don't let them persecute us as often as they'd like. They hate it when we defend ourselves or have the audacity to say "No"
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you here, Atheism is a religion and should have the same constitutional protection as any other religion. If you do not worship a supreme being then you should still be able to hold a public office.

i think "persecution" has been redefined to mean "stopping me from persecuting other people". or perhaps "making me live in a world with people who aren't exactly like me and aren't apologizing for it".

there's no petition that i know of, but if you go to the official website for each state, you can get the governor's email address and let him/her know how you feel. it's what i did.
